Overview of Developmental Gymnastics
The sport of gymnastics may be one of the most difficult sports an athlete may participate in but, the most rewarding too. It requires strength, flexibility, discipline and focus. Gymnastics is a journey of continuous learning and goal setting. The wonderful thing about this sport is that there is no finish line. There are always challenges to accomplish, new and exciting skills to learn. At Elite Energy we strive to work with each child learning the sport of gymnastics in a Safe, Positive, Fun environment.
Prep Level 1 (Ages 5 - Up)- 55 minute Class
This class is set up to integrate new students and students continuing on from the Tumble Bear program. The goal of this level is to introduce the fundamental building blocks of the sport in an effort to teach our students correctly and safely. Through strength and flexibility exercises the athletes begin to "feel" their bodies and develop a better understanding of their physical self. While training basic gymnastic shapes and skills they begin to develop their time/spatial awareness.
Level 1 (Ages 5 - Up) - 55 minute Class
The goal of this level is to further challenge our students who have completed the Prep Level 1 and are moving on in their training, as well as, provide a training atmosphere for new and returning students to learn without feeling overwhelmed. Building strength and increasing flexibility are key elements to this level to further advance the basics, as well as, prepare the body for more advanced skills. This is also when students begin to learn skill association, how one skill or exercise leads into the next skill.
Level 2 - 55 minute Class
This level continues to build upon skill association learned from Level 1. This level is a perfect place for new students to our program who have previous gymnastics experience to continue their training. Athletes will be challenged to link skills together in sequence, as well as, train more advanced skills requiring all the strength and flexibility that has been learned up to this point.
Level 3 and 4 - 90 minute class
These are the highest levels of class to be attained. Once the basics have been mastered and fundamentals are automatic, athletes begin more aggressive training. Strength and flexibility exercise are significantly increased to prepare the body for the new demands of longer classes and more difficult skills. Skills and drills trained at this level are the basis for the skills the competitive teams train.
